I'm terrible at comparing children to children. I do it almost daily. I talk to the daycare about what Nolan's "friends" can do compared to him. And normally my conclusion is that Nolan is behind. Nolan has been behind since he was born. He was born a month early so it's understandable. And obviously I do have a college degree in child development and you think that would deter my comparisons, but it doesn't. I know that all children develop at different rates. I'm tired of hearing that from people that I should stop worrying and every child does things differently. I KNOW! But do you think that makes me feel better? NO! I just read a blog of someone from my mommies group and their child is about three weeks older than Nolan. Yes that is a lot of time for Nolan to get better at his milestones this month but her kid is basically doing back flips around the house and it's annoying. This damn kid has two teeth, gerber puffs (with excellent chewing ability), and is crawling like a maniac! This child's parents are upset that she is not yet fully standing up yet. And to top it all off...SHE DANCES!
That's it! When Nolan wakes up from his nap we are shopping for dentures (how about my kid has an entire set of teeth, neiner) and Nolan will be eating a steak for dinner tonight. Chew! Chew! Chew!

Not in my house...
Ever since Nolan went to the ER a week ago (did I blog that? I meant to...) he has had terrible sleep issues. We were at the ER from 1am to 7:30am which clearly Nolan is normally asleep at those times. Nolan was awake the entire time so of course when we got home he basically slept the entire day, was up for a couple of hours and then went back to sleep for the entire night. Well....now it's not going so well. My little sleep monster has always slept really well for us and as of lately goes to sleep around 9pm and wakes up around 7:30 every morning, eats a bottle, and then goes back to sleep for about two hours. Last night Dennis put Nolan to bed somewhere around 8-9pm and around 10pm the dog (the annoying, smelly, rude basset hound) barked and Nolan woke up. This might not be entirely weird to most people but the sleep monster can sleep through anything, garage door opening, doorbell, dogs barking, tvs, creaking of the floors, a jet taking off from his room...you know the normal sounds in a house. It's weird that he was woken up by a bark. So he woke up and Dennis tells me Nolan absolutely freaked out and was completely inconsolable. [no I wasn't home because my work hates me]. Dennis finally got him back to sleep and I come home around 11pm and come upstairs for bed around midnight...I was as quiet as a mouse. Nolan starts whining. Nolan goes back to bed. Ten minutes later, Nolan whines and then softly cries. Five minutes later...all hell breaks loose. No really it wasn't that bad but he did start actively crying. He cried for about five minutes and then went back to sleep. Clearly...this isn't that bad but I think Dennis and I are in for trouble soon. I feel like Nolan will begin waking up through the night at any moment. Dennis and I will pay for having a kid that sleeps through the night at 6 weeks. I'm positively sure of it. Karma?
On a side note...Nolan is getting better. No fever. Terrible cough. Congestion. Oh and he doesn't eat that much so clearly that worries me. Oh...lets not forget about the throwing up. Over the weekend Nolan threw up through his mouth and nose without even moving, at the same time. He just looked around like what is this stuff coming out of me and why is it shoot across me. Why am I wet? We were at Target at the time and Dennis was off doing something else so of course I freaked out and quickly got Nolan out of the car seat (all 20 buckles you have to go through to get to the kid!) and by that time his nose and mouth had shut down shop for the day. They definitely left a a little gift on Nolan's clothes, car seat, blanket, and of course myself!

Papaw and Grandma J
So this past week Dennis' dad and step mom came to visit. It was so much fun, activities during the day, family dinners, many firsts for Nolan, and nightly Olympics! Well...it's not like I'm a huge Olympic person, especially for winter games, but it wasn't hard to get into them! My main purpose for watching was to get some laughs from people falling, rolling down a mountain, hitting a flag, or landing their ass on the cold ice! Yeah I know. I suck.
Monday: I had to work, booo! Dennis and his parents took Nolan to the beach, his first time ever! They also stopped at a birding trail and saw a couple 6 ft alligators.
Tuesday: I was off, hooray! We went to Sarasota to see Karen's family there and then stopped off at my dad's on the way home. Way too much food was consumed today.
Wednesday: BLUE SPRINGS!!! Dennis and I fell in love with this spring last year but we went during the summer so there were no manatees. Dennis' main goal in life was to see manatees. During one of the colder days this winter we found out they had 300 that day and Dennis was bummed because we were going to go that day but he ended up going in to work instead. When we got there the sign said "Manatee count today: 112". Dennis was instantly giddy like a school girl. Lots of manatees, another first for Nolan.
Thursday: I went back to work and the family left in the morning. Bummer!
Now it's Friday, I'm home with a sick baby. I blame the beach on Monday. It was especially cold that day, I'm sure of it. Besides...it couldn't have been any of the days that I was present. I wouldn't let my son get a COLD! Or it might have something to do with the fact that I may be a TAD jealous of the individuals who were able to go to the beach on Monday. Regardless...my son's cold is their fault!

My pants...on the floor.
It's happened. My house is in complete chaos. I work so much I feel like I haven't seen my son in days and when I do he has gained about 20lbs and looks like an older gentleman. I'm tired. I'm stressed. I have stuff thrown A L L over my house and that is NOT an exaggeration. I have dishes upstairs where there does not seem to be a dishwasher. I have dirty clothes downstairs where there does not seem to be a washing machine. My dryer has "ghetto-ed" out on me and I now have to move the button in all different directions to even get clothes dry. Things have been so insane this past week...I actually came home from working all night last night (as in over night) that when I came home at 10 am to change out of my jeans from the night and into my work pants so that I could go to court. I was in such a rush I found a pair of my work pants on the floor, crumpled up. Yep, it happened. I put them on, wore them to work, and then wore them to court.
I haven't been on the computer in weeks so here is my monthly update. Who knows when I'll be back. Maybe when I return I will be able to report that I now have a dish washer upstairs and a clothes washer downstairs.

6 Month Birthday
Dear Bean,
I just wanted to write you a quick note. A year ago today you were just a little heart beat moving on a sonogram. You were so tiny we couldn't even hear your heart beat. That was the day that you became my bean, so cute and tiny...ready to grow at any moment! It's so hard to believe that you are now 6 months old and becoming active. It's a far cry from the "blob" days and mommy cuddling with you all day while we watched old re-runs of Home Improvement. I met you six months ago today and I haven't taken my eyes off of you since. I am so in love with you. The night you were born you had to be sent to the intermediate nursery to make sure you didn't get infections from mommy having no fluid left. I called the nursery every two to three hours to check on your test results that were done every three hours to see if you responded better than the last test. I called throughout the night. In the morning hours I was so fed up with not having you with me and not being able to hold you yet I called the nursery even more often and just kept asking when you were going to pass the test to get out of that place! I couldn't come visit you and I didn't want you to feel alone. I made daddy come see you often just so you could have someone with you. I now wake up in the morning and get so excited to see you and just be with you. I will never take you for granted and I love you dearly.
Love always,
Mommy

The Roll
I just wanted to say that my son...my dear dear son...finally rolled over. I must post this on every site imaginable and I'll probably place a sign in my yard telling everyone that my son FINALLY rolled over. I mean clearly it was going to happen some day, but I was beginning to think that day would be on his 20th birthday. This morning I actually wrote a post on my "mommies board" and asked if anyone else's child wasn't rolling over, basically the answer was no, everyone's babies have been rolling over for a while. So after Nolan woke up and I fed him I put him on his tummy while I cleaned up a bit. That only lasted a few minutes and so I put him on his back, which he loves. I was walking around doing laundry and picking up and I turned around and he was on his tummy with his arm under him. I missed the whole thing! But I did get to see him figure out how to move his arm from under him and viola he was on his tummy...FROM HIS BACK!
Ohmygoodness.... he just did it again. This time he can't figure out how to get his hand out from under him, but hooray. I am so glad this happened at home with mommy and I didn't have to hear about it from daycare.
Nolan,
Mommy is so proud of you. I can't wait to experience all of your milestones. Just remember if you do them at daycare you remind your teachers not to tell mommy and then you promptly do them as soon as we get home. I love you Mr. Roller. ~Mommy

UPDATE
I just found a size three Huggies diaper which is MUCH softer than the other Mickey Mouse diaper. Hooray! HOWEVER, to my dismay, the Huggies diaper has Winnie the frickin' Pooh on the front. Is there a law somewhere that says if you do not have a newborn they must wear Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse, or polka-dot diapers?
Oh crap...I just realized that Nolan's size two diapers also have Winnie the Pooh on them (I think). I don't think I really ever noticed because they are muted tolerable colors. [mommy fail]
